In your quieter moments, when first and second born are asleep or suspiciously quiet, and the girlfriend is a)out b)not shouting at you c)leaving you alone, do you think that its all worth it in the end?

and does teething last long?

Comments Just in case you actually cared to know. You can loosen the lid of a jar with some hot water running over it for a few seconds. This way you can wrap the towel around it and pop it off easily enough.
Thought that might help reduce the smile from 36 hours to just a couple of minutes.

Comments Hi Mil.

Guestbook archive pages numbers 36 and 37 (I think) are broken links.

I was thinking I'd posted something here before, and was cruising the archives to see if I could find it.
No such luck, but it whiled away an hour or so of my employer's time. Er, I mean my time.
Reading the archives was fairly frightening, actually. Nice to see some good people out there. Some people with some intelligence and the ability to grasp humor. Scary how many of them don't.
I find it interesting that some return again and again. Maybe you ought to set up a BBS somewhere? Just make it difficult to find, so it's not inundated with idiots.

I think I've already told you how much I've enjoyed this. I think I have anyway. If I could just find it...

Carry on!

Comments Dear Mil,

Thanks for writing your second book. It just so happened it was on the top of my pile when I had felt it nessecary to, rather maturely I feel, spend two days hiding under the duvet in order to get over the rather terminal breakup of a relationship.

Your book was the perfect accompanying material for the experience. Well done.

Comments I was a bit unsure of what this site was when I ran into it. I did read on however, and I was quite relieved to find at the bottom of your site page that you are indeed an author...your stories and faux pas humor are much to brilliant to go unpublished. I am most impressed and very much enjoyed your site. You are a strong individual for realizing that a relationship is not required to end at the slightest show of dysfunction. Have a blast with your lovely lady. Best of luck to you Mil!

Comments I am more than a little worried that there appears to be a bugging device in every aspect of my life which until now I had been happily unaware of. I am just contemplating how much bother it would be to sue this 'Mil', as he seems bent on damaging a reputation of lunacy and psychotic behaviour I have taken all my life to cultivate, by implying that someone else invented this lifestyle first. Damn Margret and damn her annoyingly intelligent partner who appears to be capable of entertaining the masses (as opposed to boring them until their ears bleed), by narrating her every carefully planned move and breath in a style that I am insanely jealous of and would foist onto the conscience of my own partner, if he were still here (one last argument that ended with me sharpening a desert spoon in his right eye - yes, the one that twinkles in an irrestible fashion, for all those who know him). It seems as though, while obviously sympathetic to Margrets cause, I must support the author by investing in one of the books, merely so I can undertake a full appraisal of what appers on the surface to be a personality trait, but which I believe to be years of carefully honed aggravational tactics that I may be able to learn from. For instance, I do not identify with the plant thing - this might just be the missing ingredient of an otherwise perfected lifestyle designed to muder someone through driving them insane whilst getting away with it becuase I am 'mad' and have a foreign sounding name. Vauguely German some might say.

Suffice to say, Mil, we are amused, and more would be appreciated.

Comments I love your page...have done ever since I first read it a couple of years ago. I tried showing it to my (American) fiance, but after giggling helplessly and cryig " Wait!Wait!! You'll LOVE this one!!" and getting 45 seconds of silence while he reads, followed by a raised eyebrow and a condescending pat on the head, I decided that maybe he needs to start at the beginning and learn about British humour from somewhere OTHER than re-runs of 'Are You Being Served?'.

Hope you and yours are well, Mil.

Reading your anectdotes *does* help me understand the relationship between my friend Phyllis(american) and her beau Dave(scottish). They have similar skirmishes, which I admit, at first alarmed me.
Now I just roll my eyes and duck back into the newspaper when they get going.

Thanks for many a good chuckle!

You are missing out on much life has to offer; visiting the US Mid-West, eating cardboard food while jammed into 2 cubic feet of space, having involuntary bowel movements five miles up. (When you are five miles up, not the..... never mind)
And the joys of recreational flying..go at once to your local flying club and book a lesson in a tiny shaky single engine Cessna. After that we can talk skydiving..

Comments I stumbled across your book in a local library and seeing as it looked newish, thoroughly read and re-read and somewhat amusing I loaned it out. I just wanted to say what a great read it was! Unfortunately our library doesnt stock your 2nd book, but I'm going hunting for it asap. So thanks again for a wonderful book and the discovery of an arthur who shares my same twisted sense of humour

Comments Thank you for temporarily barring complete idiocy from invading the particular layer of space I am (grudgingly) inclined to occupy in grey hell for the better part of the day. Now, if something could be done about the dank, odor, lack of natural lighting, absence of ventilation and heating my time here might actually become tolerable...maybe even productive.

Comments Hilarious! The wife and I couldn't stop laughing. We both wasted four hours of work time while we talked over the phone and read the site. Unfortunately the call I made to her was being "monitored" by the company Gestapo so she got fired tonight. Oh well, I guess we'll be eating Ramen for the next three months. It was worth it! Sometimes you Brits actually do have a sense of humo(u)r! Amazing!

Comments My country is currently being run by a semi-literate buffoon. The Terminator was just elected govenor of California. I live in a state last in most everything, except teen pregnancy (we're #1! Go team). It's Arkansas, if you must know. You can stop laughing now, it's really not funny. OK, I've gotten off track. My point (and I really do have one) is that none of these things bother me all that much. I've learned to roll with the punches. Mr. Millington no longer updating THGAIHAA, however, has caused me to curl up in the fetal position and suck my thumb while humming the theme to Mr. Roger's Neighborhood. Oh well, all good things must come to an end. I'll look forward to the mailing list updates.

Comments Bravo Mil, good show. I've been following your page since the Xmas before you took away "most of the rest of the Things page," and I'm not bored yet. Also, I really enjoy the HurrahBah cartoon in The Weekly. Anyway, I'll look forward to the mailing list updates (please make them more frequent?). Also, does this mean that you won't go back to updating the Apology homepage or LOTW either? Because burning your picture doesn't make up for anything.
Take care, good luck with the new book.

Comments Well, well, well. I ask you a question about your next book one week Mil, and within 7 days you've put up a brand new section solely relating to it. Now that's what I call customer service!
Actually though, I too am lamenting the passing of the website - but as long as you increase your other outputs accordingly then the angry mob mentioned by that Yank below (holding fast in the minority of septics that actually possess a sense of humour that doesn't rely solely on laugh-track prompting and wacky stereotypes) won't be turning up at your doorstep.
And while we're at it, what's the score with these self-help people? Are these genuine emails or someone taking the piss? They should be the Smirking Chimps next wave of 'aid' to Iraq - see how their healing circles and positive vibes go down in Baghdad.
anyway, Hoots Mon! Och aye the noo! Wherrres me haggis! (sound of breaking glass and racous obviously fake screams of laughter).

My page Now if enough people have their own websites that this box *should* be as common as the "e-mail" box, far too many people have websites. I mean let's face it, how many of you have things to say that other people could possibly care about?
My URL http://On the other hand, and far more likely, is that a rather small percentage of the population uses these boxes as they should be used. If this is the case, is the sum purpose of these boxes to make those of us without webpages feel technologically inferior to those of you WITH webpages?!? DAMN YOU ALL!

Comments Firstly, DAMN YOU MIL! DAMN YOU STRAIGHT TO THE SULPHUROUS HEART OF HELLFIRE! I can't *believe* you're discontinuing the page. All I can say is, you'd damn well better make the Mailing List mails more common, and write a few more books or I'll show up at your house. There'll be a big group of us, and we'll all be really pissed off at you. We won't actually do anything because that might make you write less, but we'd glower at you like the dickens.

Also, I recently took a couple of Things off the website (with permission) and entered into a public speaking competition armed with them. Out of over a thousand participants in the Northern New York State area, my rendition of Mil's brilliant writing tied for first. (Some hag with a tear-jerking Shakespeare piece got half the prize. Damn her.) Thanks Mil!

Comments Ahh, what a great website this is. I was sent the link months ago when my brother (who normally sends me nothing but horrific jpegs and jokes that would incite a trial at the Hague) decided that he would send me something useful for a change. In an orgy of misappropriated resources, I printed the entire list of arguments on my works printer and read it in one sitting. The reason I'm telling you this is simple. Sitting in my wee flat in Glasgow with my mentalist partner Vicky whilst I read the arguments and varying my responses from chuckle to snigger to full blown tears-in-my-eyes laughter resulted in her glaring at me and demanding to know what it is I'm reading. So in the spirit of coupledom and the desire to share, I read out a few to which I can tell she's struggling not to laugh out loud. After she tells me to stop (not always verbally I may add), there is quite clearly a plan formulating in her head. However this doesn't become apparent until months later when in the midst of one of our own 'discussions' she accuses me of basing our relationship on YOUR website and the arguments contained therein. Never mind the 5 years before I found TMGAIHAA...
But anyway, she's quite clearly talking nonsense. BUT. BUT. That's not to say that I haven't taken SOMETHING away from Mil's musings. Thank you Mil for helping me to better understand the internal logic of the female mind, for giving me some really good advice about how to counter some of her more irrational outbursts but most of all for making me laugh so much that I peed myself a wee bit and writing your fantastic first book...
When's 'A Certain Chemistry out?

Comments You have no idea how much hope you have given me. Seriously no idea how much hope ... You see, my boyfriend and I agree on nothing, pretty much. We have little in common .. aside from breathing and such. Sometimes I worry myself sick because our differences are so vast.

I now know we are going to be 110ine, fantastic even. Though, I do see sometime in the future our relationship mirroring something like yours. And it doesn't bother me too much, because I know its going to be fine, difficult yet oh so fun.

So if you weren't paying attention earlier, you've given me SO MUCH HOPE, and I thank you and Margret for that. I thank you more for letting the world know of your unique relationship.

And, I am SO buying your book. Maybe even a handful to give to friends or strangers.

Comments Medal of Honour. It's bad enough they won the war without us (according to films anyway(not movies, FILMS)), without stealing our 'u's. What do they do with them? Is there an embargo protecting them from too many vowels? Perhaps it protects third world languages from the evils of free-market vowels?
Anyway, great game. Do you play multiplayer? Sorry, geek-alert here, I'm getting addicted to it. And you thought your page stopped people working......

Comments Enjoyed your book and website very much and forwarded a recommendation for both to my friends. As both an IT manager and a husband/father, found your insights very funny. Add to list of things my wife and I fight about - "who gets to read mil's book first" (actualy, she received it for her birthday, but i "stole" it and annoyed her nightly by sniggering (used correctly?) at it while she was trying to sleep). By the way, I agree with your comments (on the website) about Americans whole heartedly, although living in the DC area, I think you may have the proportions of morons vs lovely people a bit off. Particularly the closer you get to the White House. ;-)

Take care - I'll be looking forward to the next book(s).
